Passive smoking Kills

Would you be surprised that 900 office workers, 165 bar workers and 145 manufacturing workers die each year as a direct result of breathing in other people's tobacco smoke at work. Research also shows that there are three times as many deaths a year from passive smoking at work as there are from workplace injuries. watch

If your a non smoker be prepared to sue for damages as Lawyers will warn that employers could face lawsuits if they fail to protect staff from passive smoke. This makes it clear how existing health and safety law applies to passive smoking, effectively banning smoking from the vast majority of workplaces.

every time you smoke a cigarette just remember this "Passive smoking at work kills three people every day, according to research". http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2925633.stm

I apologise but I have to say that I strongly disagree with you on the issue of passive smoking. You supported the idea that, smokers as well as employers must comfy with the laws against smoking in public or else all non-smokers will have to prosecute them. What do you have to say about freedom or human rights? Aren’t we all equal individuals with equal rights and responsibilities? I as a smoker have always respected people who didn’t smoke and in a restaurant or a pub I used to move to the smoking area away from them. In fact, we all used to tolerated smoking and have places that smoking didn’t annoy anyone. At least we smokers could, as human beings, enjoy our night out with our friends. And who was the one that scientifically proved that passive smoking kills? Sorry to disappoint you Teleka but the point if Passive Smoking does kill is very uncertain at the moment! And that’s what my scientific research has shown me. In the end, it’s all about how much you want to believe in something, good or bad, and finally how critically you approach it. The actual debate is, if health organisations and other social parties wanted to pass discomfort and irritation, or maybe something else, and masqueraded into a health risk just to be more convincing. If you want to know the true story behind passive smoking just check this link.

I agree with you as I don’t smoke too and I definitely don’t like inhaling other peoples smoke. When ever I pass someone smoking I always hold my breath in order to stop inhaling the nasty smell and chemicals. The person who wrote a comment earlier would say that because he or she is a smoker and cannot see from a non smoker’s perspective. They talk about human rights then where are our rights of passive smoking why should we hold our breath for a few seconds and then gasp for some air later as someone out there is selfish and thinks about them self. I believe if they want to harm themselves that’s fine by me but please don’t make us a part of it as I don’t want to be a passive smoker.

Well my argument is we all have a right to life under Article 2 of the European Convention on human rights so smoking just like drugs should be banned altogether. If i'm going to sue i should be able to sue while i'm alive just as nusarat said instead of holding our breath for a few seconds and then gasping for some air later as someone out there is selfish enough to just think of them self"
